    Introduction to School of Software, NIT

    School of Software(SoS), NIT is one of pilot software-professional technology institute approved by Education Administration of Henan Province, China. 90 faculties are related to computer science, 9 people are professors or associate professors. More than 80 teachers are masters or doctors. In addition, 4 people are of certificated silver-medal tutors of Microsoft, 1 is the member of the national eduction consultant committee, and more than half faculties have engineering experience. The major of software engineering has participated in “Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program” proposed by the China’s National Ministry of Education ever since 2011. Such major also started the specialty-comprehensive reform by Henan Provincial Education Department in 2013. At the same year, we signed a pact of joint-educating master gradates with East Stroutsburg University (ESU), USA.

    We constantly adhere to the idea of running school with “humanism (human-oriented), holistic-educating, morality-esteem and technology-advocating,general-knowledge and staff-specialized, society-serving”, explore talent-training mode of CDIO engineering education, and exploit brand new cooperation pattern between our university and enterprises to form this running-school idea of designing our talent training programs by requirements from industries, reinforcing procedure management to strengthen the teaching style, underscoring science research to improve teaching competence, constructing scenario-training platform to encourage students innovation and venture, conducting much more university-enterprise cooperation to exploit the new development mode, and developing international collaberation to improve internationalized education”. We have been cultivated massive professional talents mastering mainstream IT technology, good at top design, possessing different specialty background and great engineering concepts, and taking international mainstream software development technology as main clue.

    Our school have successively been approved to construct “Cloud Computing and Virtualization Technology Engineering Laboratory of Henan Province”,“Self-adaptive Mobile Terminal Manipulation Technology Engineering Laboratory of Henan Province”, “Software Engineering Key Laboratory of Nanyang”, “Digital Media Technology Key Laboratory of Nanyang”. We have achieved tens of prizes over the IT fields in the past 3 years, for example, national patents, the second and third awards of the science and technology progress in Henan Province, and published over 100 high-level papers towards the IT fields. Our school is named as “Advanced Base Communist Party Organization in Henan Provincial Colleges and Universities” and “Advanced Collective in Higher Education and Teaching Affairs of Henan Province” by Henan Provincial Colleges and Universities Education Affairs Committee, and Henan Provincial Education Department, respectively.

    1.School-running Model and Talent-Training Features

    (1) Construction of course architecture features in engineering education, which involves cultivating the students' competence of engineering and team-cooperation, guiding students to participate in scientific and technological innovation.

    To strengthen the students’ training states in a """"simulation environment"""", our school provides students with the """"practical stage"""" completely managed by the students within campus - """"College Students' Science and Technology Innovation Base"""" and """"College Students’ Business Incubator"""", occupying more than 4000 square meters and stationing more than 30 learning communities or project teams. Until now, our Innovational Base and Business Incubator have been successfully developing a lot of projects for more than 200 individuals or firms. There are 10 students earned for the national awards and more than 60 students for provincial awards, including one project gotten the venture capital from Angel Investors and moved to Shanghai for incubation.

    (2) Focus on internationalization, international cooperation and exchanges, We carry out the depth of the school-enterprise cooperation with the international and domestic well-known software companies to construct our specialties together.

    Since the foundation of School of Software, the technical experts from more than half of the top 10 well-known companies in the global IT industries visited us to expand the horizons and update the knowledge by giving lectures to students and holding the teachers fora. In recent years, our school established a close strategic partnership with Microsoft, Apple, Google, Oracle, Base FX, Redhat, Great Wall Computer (China) Ltd. Co., and China Digital Network Company. """"Microsoft-NIT Application Store opened in Oct. 2013, and any software from Microsoft are provided to the faculties and students in NIT with no charge. We transfered our enthusiastic applications for IDUP (iOS Developer University Program) to Apple and GDG(Google Developer Group) Developer Community to Google in 2011, gaining free technical supports from such two IT giants, established “Oracle-NIT Education Center with Oracle in 2012, where students may often listen to the excellent technical reports conveyed by the industrial experts within the campus to improve faculties and students’ tracking ability to newcoming IT technologies and software-developing competency, built specialty direction of Film and Television Special Effects Technology with Base FX(USA) in 2011 in which interested faculties and students can participate in the production of Chinese film special effects, built """"Great Wall- NIT Cloud Computing Laboratory"""" with the Great Wall Computer Co. Ltd. in 2012, and built """"Redhat College"""" with Redhat in 2011.

    (3) We have strengthened the basic construction and set up all kinds of specialty laboratories fully open for the students communities.

    There are abundent experiment centers and professional laboratories at our school, such as iOS Training Center (100 Apple Mac Computers), Software Development Center, Computer Network Experiment Center, owning 32 specialty laboratories and more than 4,000 computer equipment sets, and valuing more than 1900 million yuan.

    To make full profit from such experimental equipment in teaching, we decided to open all the laboratories to students completely after an earlier trial of few, assigning these laboratory keys to students communities in 2011. Students from the communities managing laboratories can enter them to study. Such laboratory management model reflects the good-learning atmosphere and harmonious relationship between faculties and students.

    (4) We improve the students’ English ability by various means to cultivate the professional talents facing the world.

    There are serveral English-Chinese curricula in our curriculum offering and 10% - 20% questions have been writen in English on the final test paper of each professional course. In this way, we strive to improve the students' English ability to cultivate the international professionals.

    Specialty Direction 1:Software Engineering (Game Development Technologies)

    The direction cultivates high-quality talents of mastering game development technologies, developing games, planning web software system, understanding the related mobile platform and dynamic website development technologies by using the mainstream game development engines and case-teaching, explaining game development technologies and software design methods, establishing basic concepts and methods of game application and virtual reality software planning and development.

    Employments:cellphone games, online games, web games, all kinds of virtual reality applications, simulation platform and web application planning, design, programming, operations, management, etc..

    Schooling:4 years.

    Specialty Direction 2:Software Engineering (Cloud Computing)

    The direction cultivates high-quality professional and technical talents with innovation ability, good software engineering quality and professional ethics by using cloud computing technologies based on linux platform as the main-line, and C/C++ programming language as mainstream tools, and grasping deploying and establishment of cloud computing platform, and design and development of cloud computing software through implementation, management and analysis onwards cloud computing projects.

    Employments:cloud services platform deployment and build, cloud service management platform development, cloud terminal design, virtualization technology applications, mobile cloud computing software development, etc..

    Schooling:4 years.

    Specialty Direction 3:Software Engineering (Mobile Device Application Development)

    The direction cultivates the application-oriented talents with the embedded theories and software development skills towards the fields about system software design, development and integration of mobile intelligent terminals, like smart phone and pad.

    Employments:cell phone software design, mobile device software development, mobile information services, system kernel customization, system integration, etc..

    Schooling:4 years.

    (Students enrolled in the cloud computing or mobile devices can choose any one from these two directions to develop further education.)

    Specialty Direction 4:Software Engineering (Big Data)

    The direction, to meet the talent demand for """"cloud computing and big data era"""", cultivates high-quality professional and technical talents with innovation ability, solid theory foundation in software engineering and cloud computing technologies, mastering big data application platform build and deployment, grasp big data storage design, learning the use of data analysis and data mining, and big data visualization tools, competent in big data application of governments, banks, hospitals, finance and Internet departments.

    Specialty Direction 5: Software Engineering (Database Technology Application)

    The direction, aimed to database applications, cultivates high-quality application talents with the innovation ability, solid theoretical basis on software engineering and database technology, mastering large-scale database design, development and management, and grasping data mining, data analysis and java development tools.

    Employments:Engaged in database management and maintenance, data mining and analysis, database analysis-design and programming, information system design and development at governments, banks, hospitals, finance and other departments, etc..

    Specialty Direction 6: Software Engineering (Java Technology Application)

    The direction uses Java technologies to cultivate advanced technical talents with good comprehensive quality and professional ethics, innovative consciousness and team spirits of collaboration, mastering modern software engineering knowledge, good at web application development, enterprise-application software design and development, and smart phone software R undefinedamp; D.

    Employments:Java programmers, android software engineers, web application designers, enterprise-application system designers, test engineers, etc..

    Schooling:4 years.

    Specialty Direction 7: Software Engineering (Software Design)

    The direction closely follows software engineering technologies to cultivate engineering and technical talents with good software engineering quality and professional ethics, using mainstream C/C++ as the basic programming language, mastering multimedia and network application development in both Windows and Linux platform, and good at software development on industrial controls.

    Employments:Engaged in application software development, testing, maintenance, technical supports and project management, etc..

    Schooling system:4 years.

    Specialty Direction 8: Software Engineering (Digital Video Effects Technology)

    The direction, oriented to digital media fields, cultivates compound development and design talents with high-humanistic quality, artistic and creative abilities. grasping computer programming techniques of video special effects, animation and multimedia development, and interactive software design and application, qualified for the film and TV special effects production, 3-D virtual roaming, and digital media and multimedia works creation.

    Employments:digital film and TV special effects, network multimedia production, interactive media, mass media, 3-D architecture roaming, etc..

    Specialty Direction 9:Network Engineering (Network Engineering and Management)

    The direction, oriented to all kinds of enterprises, governments, telecommunications, media, finance, education and other fields, cultivate high-quality technical talents mastering planning and design of the information platform, high-performance information system integration, PHP application design and development, cloud platform planning and deploying abilities.

    Employments:Engaged in network planning and design, network security architecture, application development, data center system integration, data storage and disaster tolerance backup, network management and maintenance, in all kinds of enterprises and institutions.

    Schooling system:4 years.

    Specialty Direction 10:Network Engineering (Network Security and Attacking-defense)

    The direction cultivates the application talents in accordance with the international standards of network security and attack-and-defense, with network security engineering technical abilities, network attack and defense knowledge and reasoning abilities, and a good practical experience, up on TCP/IP protocols, proficient in Linux and C programming language, understanding network device configuration and management, familiar with network security technologies and the mainstream network security products, grasping the mainstream means of attack and defense, conducting network security penetration tests in the authorization.

    Employments:Engaged in software design, development, testing, production, application, maintenance and management towards computer system security and network security in all kinds of enterprises and institutions, such as finance, public security, security, IT companies, etc..

    Schooling system:4 years.

    (2) College Education

    Design and Production of Animation

    The specilty cultivates professional talents mastering the basic theories and application skills of flash animation, 3-D animation, film special effects, digital media post-synthesis, conducting digital media creation, completing UI interface and website design by using case teaching, combining technical training and artistic form in curriculum model.

    Employments: network multimedia, film and television animation, mass media, visual performance, website design and maintenance, etc..

    Schooling system:2 years.

    3. Survey on Students’ Graduate-Education, Employment and Salary

    More than 20 students graduated from our school were admitted to the Chinese Academy of Sciences, University of Science and Technology of China, Beihang University, Beijing Jiaotong University and other top Chinese Universities(within 985 programs) in 2013. The rate of masters’ entrance is above 14%.

    Employment is a highlight in School of Software. From the beginning of one of our first college graduates, Li Wenyi, entering Microsoft in 2006, the places of student employment mainly concentrated in Beijing-Shanghai-Guangzhou. A large number of outstanding college graduates entered the Beijing Zhongguancun High-tech Industrial Park, Microsoft Research Asia(China), Huawei, Hewlett Packard, AMD, H3C, Fujitsu, Shanghai Micro-Innovation, Digital China, Neusoft, Hitachi, Ricoh, and international and domestic large-scale IT enterprises to qualify a high-end employment with the rate of more than 80%. After tracking the college graduates, we find that each average initial salary among them reached 5000 yuan per month for two consecutive years since 2012.

    4. Scholarship Settings

    Scholarships from School of Software over 215 million yuan totally envolve National Scholarship, National Motivational Scholarships, National Stipend, NIT Scholarship, Asin Keiichi Scholarship, Shuanghui Scholarship and so on, and providing a large number of outstanding students for good chance to achievement.
